The Chautauqua House is a charter academy established through Bay District Schools to allow adults with special needs to continue their education and learn valuable life skills. The purpose of the Chautauqua House is to prepare disabled students for the demands of the world and to educate and enlighten the world about the needs of the disabled while providing them with as much independence as possible.
As a new JSL program for 2008-9, the League is honored to partner with the Chautauqua House through consistent, year-round volunteer support with the goal of broadening the student's educational and emotional experience and building relationships. The League will provide much needed mentoring services along with a variety of other activities and tasks including field trips, school work, chores, and lunch duties to name a few.
The League shares in the belief that these students deserve an environment where they are free to learn & practice the knowledge, skills, behaviors and habits of citizenship needed as an independent adult.
