Greetings from the Junior Service League (JSL) of Panama City! On behalf of our membership, I welcome you to our website. I am honored to serve as the 2010-2011 president of an organization of women whose mission is committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Leagues around the world are recognized for their committment to developing women as trained volunteers and having great impact in making their communities better and stronger, and we are no exception. In fact, you could say We Build Women Who Build Better Communities!
For over 59 years, the committed members of the JSL have worked diligently and selflessly to serve the greater Panama City area, with a proven track record of excellence in initiating and participating in our many programs, projects and partnerships that improve the physical, emotional and educational well-being of children and families. On the strength of our history and legacy, the JSL continues a practice of identifying needs in our community and putting our human and financial resources toward meeting those needs in measurable ways. In calendar year 2009 alone, we contributed approximately 4.000 hours of volunteer service and fundraised nearly a quarter of a million dollars to support our community programs, projects and partnerships. Our impact for positive community change is only possible through our dedicated members and our generous donors, sponsors and partners. JSL members are smart, professional, and dynamic women who give countless volunteer hours to our mission and leadership development training, despite the many demands on their valuable time. It is our training that sets us apart from other organizations, and our members utilize their JSL training in their places of business, schools, and other nonprofit organizations, making lasting changes that continue to ripple throughout the community! Additionally, the JSL is so fortunate to be supported by generous donors and sponsors, corporations, nonprofits, community partners and friends who help us build a better community year after year. We are tremendously grateful to all of them and encourage you to support the many organizations and businesses that support the work of the JSL. Collectively, we generate an enormous impact by changing lives and improving our community!
We are excited about the 2010-2011 year, the work we will accomplish together, and the future we envision as we strive to sustain ourselves for the next chapter of our history and many more generations of women. We stand ready on an exciting path of change, seeking new programs and partnerships, and in response to the growing needs of our League, we continue to pursue affiliation with the Association of Junior Leagues International.
